Venographic DVT (the primary endpoint)
was demonstrated in 37.4% of the patients who received warfarin and
in 31.4% of those who received tinzaparin. Tinzaparin seemed to reduce
distal DVT (calf DVT) more effectively than it did proximal DVT. Tinzaparin
also resulted in more major bleeding than did warfarin (2.8% vs. 1.2%).
Rates of clinical VTE and death were not different.
