Slide Nine:

This slide shows that in-hospital symptomatic DVT occurred significantly less frequently in the pre-op dalteparin group compared to warfarin. This is an important finding. Symptomatic DVT leads to higher health-care costs because of the need for more intensive anticoagulation and longer hospitalization. The differences in hospital mortality rates were not significantly different. No patient had objectively-documented pulmonary embolism.
